Thanksgiving

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” - Psalm 100:4-5

Happy Thanksgiving!

When I woke up this morning I thanked God for His goodness to me.  I am grateful that today at 5 P.M., four generations of my family will celebrate Thanksgiving together. And I do not take for granted the heavenly scent of turkey baking in my oven and beautiful pumpkin custard setting on my countertop.

I will be missing my mother who left us 3 years ago to be with Jesus.  Every holiday when I make her sweet potato recipe in her special Lifetime cookware I think of her.  Today will be no exception.

My mother is in the air I breathe.  She is the way I cook, clean and parent.  She modeled love to me every day of my life.  The older I get the more I see how very wise she was.  I cannot put into words what her prayers for me and my family have meant.  She has put her handprint on my soul. I was so very blessed with the gift of a wonderful, kind and loving mother who made more sacrifices for me than I can count.

Mom will not be here physically with us today as we celebrate Thanksgiving; but her Godly example continues to echo through our memories of her.  Her faithfulness to God and her love for family spoke volumes.  I pray that I will be as faithful to God and family as she was.

I can’t help but think of Steve Green’s song, “Find Us Faithful.”  Today as I count my blessings I thank God for a mother that modeled Jesus to us. My prayer is that all who come behind me will find me as faithful as my sweet Mama.

To those who are reading this, thank you for being such a sweet part of my life. I lift you to our Father with joy and gratefulness! May you have a beautiful and peaceful Thanksgiving!
