One Day Closer
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
Years ago, when I was in elementary school, my father would stop at a house on our way to church to pick up a young man and his sister, taking them along to Sunday School. Today, that man actively participates in the very same church we both still attend.
Seventeen years ago, this man went through a heartbreaking ordeal that none of us would want to experience. On a cold winter night in December, his beloved daughter—his only child, lost her life in a tragic car accident.
For the next eleven years, each time I saw him at church and asked, “How are you this morning?” he would always respond with a big smile, saying, "One Day Closer."
Words have meaning.
Words have impact.
One day, I found myself facing the heartbreaking loss of my own child. Suddenly, the words "One Day Closer" took on a whole new depth of meaning for me.
When I open my eyes in the morning I’m…One Day Closer.
When I bow my head to pray I’m…One Day Closer.
When I look into the eyes of my grandchild and say, “I love you” …I’m One Day Closer.
When I do something special for my children to show my love.…I’m One Day Closer.
When I gaze into the evening sunset…I’m One Day Closer.
When I kiss my husband good-night…I’m One Day Closer.
One day my heart will stop beating…
One day I’ll take my first breath in heaven finding it celestial…
One day I won’t be saying "One Day Closer" because I’ll finally be home.
I CAN ONLY IMAGINE!
I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk by Your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes would see
When Your face is before me
I can only imagine
Yeah
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for You Jesus
Or in awe of You be still?
Will I stand in Your presence
Or to my knees, will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine
I can only imagine I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still?
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still?
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees, will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah?
Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine
I can only imagine, yeah-yeah
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine
